Time to Play Catch Up!

Well I've obviously totally slacked off when it comes to the blog.. so now I'm going to post about a million pictures to catch up on our lives!
Baylie was a bit terrified the first time we put her in a shopping cart!

Baylie and Wyatt!

She is SO happy!

I am obsessed with her cheesy grin!

Her first taste of rice cereal, she loved it!

First time in the high chair, she loves it! Probably because it means it's her favorite time of day: eating time!
She LOVES to "jump-jump"!  She could sit in this thing all day.

Pretty sure my Dad has waited his whole life for this day. He was obviously thrilled!  Baylie? Not so much!

Five months old!

She has the strongest abs and can sit up like nothin!  She tried to escape her bouncer!

This is what happens when Mimi and Aunt Niecey get to play with Baylie...

These two are SO cute together!

She seriously loves Pop's boat

Her sleeping cocoon

Looks comfy I guess...

This is my favorite of all the faces she makes!  Nate calls it "The Blowfish"

Daddy is trying to teach her to massage his back.. it's going well so far

She thinks it's so funny to play with hats!

Literally too big for her britches! She gets holes in all her toes because she jumps so much.

This many people should NOT be in this sketchy boat together

Baylie wanted to fish at Strawberry Reservoir

Nate and Sam fishin.. from in the water

So funny, Wyatt is too chubby for his shirt

We went to the fair and Baylie got to pet a donkey
Life is crazy right now! We had a really really fun summer. Nate left the first part of August for military training in Missouri until January.  Originally Baylie and I were going to go as well but after talking with people it was highly recommended that we don't, so we are just going to visit every once in an while.  We just got back yesterday from our first visit.  It was a blast but I'll have to post all about that later!  Nate is doing really well so far.  It's a lot of work and he is really tired but he's a champ and will get through it with flying colors!
Baylie and I are living at my parents house for now!  We are buying a house in Clearfield, but it's pretty much a dive so we'll have to fix it up a lot before we can move in!  We are really excited to start though and it will be a great new chapter of our lives!

Walk With Me ~ Pioneer Trek 2013

For the last year of our lives we had the awesome opportunity to plan and organize a trek for our stake. This was such a great learning experience for us and we were so blessed by it.  This was the first trek our stake had done so we kind of had to start rock bottom and work our way up. It turned out amazing thanks to all the wonderful individuals of our stake who contributed!

The theme that we chose was "Walk with Me", we chose this because we really like the idea of the youth learning to walk with our Savior more and also "walking" with the pioneers.  We all could use the reminder every day that Christ is right there beside us at every moment, all we have to do is reach out to Him.

Our trek took place at Martin's Cove Wyoming. It was cool to be trekking on the actual trail the pioneers trekked.  The missionaries there are great and they shared some really cool stories and experiences with us.  The first night we were there we played pioneer games.  It was really entertaining to watch the kids, and we even got in on a couple of the activities also!

The second day was our really long pull day.  We went over Rocky Ridge, about 14 miles.  There were some great moments along the way.  One of my favorites was the Jens and Elsie Neilson reenactment.  We were told this story by a missionary who was the great great grandon of Jens, it was awesome to hear it from him.  Jens and Elsie were in the Willie Handcart Company along with their son and a young girl named Bodil Mortensen who's family couldn't afford to go all together so her father sent her along to help the Neilson's.  After trekking for many days and making it over Rocky Ridge, they were out of food and in desperate need.  Thirteen members of the company died there, including their son, Neils and Bodil.  Jens arrived in Rock Creek with frozen feet and felt he could not walk another step.  He told Elsie to leave him by the trail to die in the snow, but Elsie wouldn't do it.  She couldn't go on without him.  She put him in the handcart and pulled along.  She later stated that she knew angels were helping her.  We had a great family reenact this and it brought tears to everyone's eyes.

The Womens' Pull was another of my favorite moments.  But for a different reason than I expected.  As the men were leaving to walk up the hill, the missionary told us to put our hands over our hearts and watch the Priesthood leave.  I stood there watching my husband walk up that hill and my heart was beyond full.  I couldn't wait to get back up that hill to be back by his side.  I thought of what my life would be like without him, or without the Priesthood and I know that neither would be a pretty option.  Once I got back to him I just hugged him and hugged him, words could not express the love that I felt at that moment.  I feel like it was just a teeny tiny glimpse of the wonderful reunion all those who have the blessing of being sealed in the temple will have when we reach the other side.  The Womens' Pull was also a time to see the strength of our youth. I admire them so much, and admire their strength in their challenges.  There was one boy who said that he hated watching the women and girls struggle to get up that hill because it reminded him of watching his mom struggle with cancer, and eventually succumbing to that disease.  I was so impressed by him and his ability to relate the trek experience to his real life.  That's what it's all about!

The third day we walked through Martins Cove.  Unfortunately it was beyond ridiculously hot so the Spirit wasn't as strong because we were all too distracted by how hot it was and worried about making sure everyone stayed hydrated. But it is a beautiful area and the spirit of the pioneers is strong there.

We loved this calling.  We received this calling in an odd way.. originally a different couple in our ward was called, after they were sustained Nate went over to them to congratulate them and tell them that they had just received the greatest calling in the whole church.  They looked at him like he was crazy but he just kept going on and on about how much he loves trek.  Well lo and behold, a short while later they found out they had to move.  When the stake presidency member met with them about it, he asked if they had any ideas of someone to replace them and they told him about this crazy couple in their ward that said it was the greatest calling in the church.  How can you say no to that??  Nate was ecstatic!  He truly does have an amazing testimony of trek.  I was sure that this was a calling from the Lord, but I was far from sure that this was the greatest calling in the church!  I went on trek as a youth and it was great, but I could have never gone again and felt great about it.  But as He often does, the Lord softened my heart and helped me to see how amazing trek truly is.  We witnessed so many miracles, too many to even count, and I know it is because the Lord uses trek to change lives.  I saw it happen.  I learned and grew so much from this whole process.  And what a blessing to be able to do it with Nate.  He is definitely my better half.   The Lord blessed us in so many ways, completely unrelated to trek, while we were fulfilling this calling.  I am so grateful that we had this challenge and I am so grateful to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

**Sorry there are no pictures... I can't figure out how to download them :(

Independence Day 2013

I LOVE the Fourth of July!  I'm not sure why but it is definitely one of my favorite holidays and my favorite way to celebrate it is in Kaysville doing all their wonderful festivities!
Here's a few pictures of our fun day!
Mimi brought bubbles for Baylie and she loved them!

"The Blowfish"

Gotta have some taffy with Pops!

And a popsicle with Mimi!

Who sleeps through a parade??

She learned how to spit and loves to show it off...

Sleepin through fireworks too!

We went to the Oakley rodeo with my Dad's fam the day after!  SO fun!

Lava Hot Springs!

Well after almost three years of marriage we finally were able to go on a Griffin Family Vacation!!  We went to Lava Hot Springs back in June and it was so great! Nate's brother Brandon finished dental school up in Canadia and he wanted to go camping with everyone before he started a residency at the U so off we went!  It was SUCH a blast!  We sat around a fire and chatted and laughed, there's just nothing like seeing Nate with all his brothers... they are ridiculous to say the least.  You would think they were all 12 instead of grown adults with children of their own.  But I love to see Nate having so much fun, and if we're lucky he laughs so hard he may drool :)

We went to the hot springs one day and rode down the river. It was really cold so I didn't think I would really want to do it more than once but it was so much fun that we all ignored the cold and just kept going!  I was having too much fun to take pictures.. oops!

The last day we went to the pool with all the water slides and diving boards!  We had a blast!
Wyatt is so chill!  So fun!

Baylie loved chillin in the pool with Grandma!

This girl LOVES the water!
It was a really fun few days and I'm so glad everyone was able to go! Thanks Brandon for planning such a fun trip!!

Memorial Day 2013

We had a really fun weekend for Memorial Day!  We went camping at East Canyon for Friday-Saturday with my family which was great!  It was Baylie's first time camping and she did pretty good!  We had a "dutch oven contest" that Nate and I totally dominated!  We made burritos for dinner, I was hesitant to try something new but we loved them!  My parents were in charge of dessert.. which didn't work out so well!  It had great potential but something went horribly wrong.. Brandon and Lindsay were in charge of breakfast, which was really good but the official judge (Dad) had to admit we won!  Woot!  Maybe next year folks! :)
We had fun roasting marshmallows and just sitting around the fire chatting!

Baylie was so happy to be outside!

Just chillin while Mom and Dad set up a tent!

Nate eating "Celestial Fruit"..his favorite!

This is what I woke up to.. it was quite chilly!

Mom had to do something creative with a T-Shirt for work to win a contest, I think wakeboarding counts, right?  She totally won!

It was also Baylie's first time on Pop's boat!  I was so nervous that she would hate her life jacket and cry the whole time.. but the opposite was true!  She LOVED it!  And then fell asleep... typical!
The water was still really cold so everyone wore the dry suit with their sweats underneath!  Mom's work was doing a contest for a trip to a spa, the goal was to do the most creative thing with your T-Shirt!  She wakeboarded in it!  Until we hit a rock.. shoot!  But all was well and we provided a fisherman with quite a laugh and Mom won!  (Lezbehonest, probably because her boss felt bad for us... but hey! Whatever works!)

On Memorial Day we did the typical Hyde family pool party! This year it was at my Uncle John's house. It was so fun to get together with everyone. It seems like we just don't get to see them as much as we used to!
Just a few of our favorite people!

This girl LOVES the water!

And she loves her Pops!

Mmmm!  Free slurpee day!  My cousin Syd gave her a taste and she just wanted more and more!
It was such a great weekend!  We love doing things like this, even if it's nothing big and fancy it's just nice to be with family!
